Going on a Trip

Hey folks, as some of you may or may not know, I’m going on a solo road trip for 10 weeks.

I’ve talked about it on and off for the last couple of years now, but it’s only been very recently where I feel like its a real thing that’s happening. I’ve given notice to my landlord, to my job, and to my internet provider, so the logistical ball has started rolling. It’s nervewracking as hell, but I figured why not do something a little crazy once in a while? So that’s where I am. Now the most important part you all would like to know: where am I going?

Basically, I’m going a full loop around Canada and the US, starting in Toronto. First off, I head east to the Maritimes, stopping at St. John’s. Then I head south to New Orleans and hang around the Texas area for an extended time. From there, I head west to cross the Grand Canyon, and stop in LA and San Francisco. After that, I head north up the coast to Seattle, Portland, and finally Vancouver. From there, I find a way back home before Christmas. Of course there’ll be smaller stops on the way, so I’ll put up a more proper itinerary in the near future. But for now, that’s the gist of my trip.

Next bit of info is that I’m practically going solo on the trip, however there’ll be places I’m staying with more than enough room for a couple people to crash and tag along on my travels in those cities. It’s a no-pressure thing, but I’d emphasize that the trip still runs by me, but I’d love to have some extra travellers for a short time. If that doesn’t work, we can still meet at one of the smaller city stops I’m making throughout. Now what are the cities I’m staying for a week every time?

Halifax / St. John’s, NFLD (mid-October)
New Orleans (Nov 6-12)
Portland/Seattle Region (Dec 6-10, 11-16)

Texas and LA/San Fran I’m staying for a long period, but I’ve made deals to stay with family friends and such, and I don’t want to exploit their generosity already. But if you can find lodging, oh man, that’d be great to see people at those places!

And perhaps one of the more crucial things to note: I want suggestions from people. Things to do, places to see, food to eat, all that jazz. Again, suggestions, not obligations. I’d love to try and hit everything at these cities, but I’d rather be prepared and just see where the day takes me when I get there. I’ll ask this again, once I write down a proper list of cities I’m hitting, like a band’s tour list, but I think the hotspots will be the places I mentioned above. Any ideas folks? I’d love to hear them.

Finally, I’ll be adding more info here as I make time, but the next two months will be a bit hectic even just leading up to the trip itself. But besides info on the trip, I’m hoping to document my travels and posting them here. I won’t try to overload and hopefully it’ll be a bit curated. Also, I’ll never know when I have internet next, so it could be sporadic updates as far as I know. But ultimately, I’m keeping the brunt of my documenting here, though I’m sure I’ll post stuff elsewhere too.

So folks, that’s it. I’m going on a trip, leaving mid-October and coming back before Christmas. I’m still a bit rattled that this is really happening, but I’m hoping everything comes together before my departure. Maybe drinks before I go? Who knows, just a suggestion.

Also, the blog/site is pretty slapdash right now, since I made it quickly in the middle of the night. But I fully plan to spruce it up really soon.
